I installed Windows 8 on my laptop today as an upgrade from Windows 7. Honestly, I like it. Well, I don’t object to it. The upgrade took a few hours, but apart from that, Windows 8 hasn’t done anything too objectionable. I guess it’s a case of “I was expecting a lot more hassles” and the only hassle I’ve had from it so far is not knowing how to shutdown Windows 8 and hot keys / navigation not being as quick. For example, to shutdown Windows 8 you have to wait for the charms bar to appear, then click something else, then another click. With previous versions of Windows, this could be done in two clicks that are geographically close to each other.

Anyway, how do you shut down Windows 8? Move the mouse to the top right hand corner of the screen, then move down to Settings. Next click on Power and click Shutdown.

It’s not obvious how to shutdown Windows 8 because the button that people will want to use each time they use their computer is quite well hidden. Although many may argue that traditionally Windows has always hidden their shutdown button as previous versions of Windows ironically forced users to click Start in order to shutdown their computer :?
